Metaphorically Speaking

Speak to me in metaphors
Concrete is so harsh
So real.

Falling breaks bones
Bruises turning purple-black.

I willingly escape to your seeming falsehoods
Where the cracks disappear as soon as I glance away
Yet the anger underneath still finds a way to manifest
And to laugh it all away.

But lifting the veil
Makes me need to act out
To feel the pain in all its harshness
I’ve learned to protect those deep desires too well.

Am I really living at all
Or just covering the injuries and moving on
Like life didn’t actually just happen?
